YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — US President Joe Biden’s recent post on X (formerly Twitter), featuring a picture of himself with red laser eyes, has sparked discussions. This symbolic gesture, widely recognized within the cryptocurrency community as an endorsement of cryptocurrencies, comes as Bitcoin’s (BTC) price nears the $50,000 mark following recent rallies.
Biden’s post, which follows the Super Bowl 2024 event, has added an intriguing layer to the discourse surrounding BTC acceptance and its potential impact on future economic policies.
Joe Biden’s Bullish Red Laser Eyes and Bitcoin
Several celebrities, lawmakers, and businesspeople have adopted the red laser eyes meme to signal their support for cryptocurrencies. More than just a digital trend, it has become a statement of bullish sentiment toward the future of digital currencies, often used to express a vision of Bitcoin’s price soaring to new heights.
The timing of President Biden’s post, coinciding with a rally in Bitcoin’s price nearing the $50,000 mark, has only fueled speculation and interpretations regarding the administration’s stance on cryptocurrencies.
Over the past six months, BTC price has surged nearly 90%, going from $25,700 last September to over $48,000 today.
As some users celebrated it, others pointed out that Joe Biden’s chances of getting re-elected are so slim that he is now trying to please the crypto community for support.
“Down so bad, appealing to crypto bros,”
one user commented.
Meanwhile, others credited an intern for the post and suggested someone else with access to the account posted it while the US president was asleep.
Crypto endorsement of Dark Brandon meme?
However, including the red laser eyes in President Biden’s profile picture is not just a nod to cryptocurrency supporters. It also references the “Dark Brandon” meme.
Democrats and their supporters have used this meme before, depicting Biden’s more assertive and edgier persona. The posts are often targeted to highlight policy successes or to rally support among younger demographics and internet-savvy audiences.
On Oct. 2, 2021, American professional stock car racing driver Brandon Brown won the Sparks 300, a NASCAR Xfinity Series race.
Following his victory, while giving an interview to NBC Sports, the crowd behind him began loudly chanting something.
While it was initially difficult to make out what the crowd said, the reporter, Kelli Stavast, suggested they chanted “Let’s go, Brandon” to cheer the driver. However, it later became clear that they were saying: “F—- Joe Biden.”
Since then, Republicans and Biden critics have used “Let’s go Brandon” as an insult to the US President. In response, Biden fans have used the red laser eyes of “Dark Brandon” as his satirical alter ego.
However, this isn’t the first time Joe Biden has tweeted himself sporting red laser eyes. Last October, when he announced his re-election campaign, he posted a video drinking from a mug depicting him with the Bitcoin-bullish red laser eyes. The mug is up for sale, priced at $22 on his website.
This dual symbolism of the red laser eyes as a crypto endorsement and a political meme highlights a savvy intersection of internet culture and political messaging.
