YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — Elon Musk’s X has removed cryptocurrency emojis, including Bitcoin (BTC) and several other cryptocurrencies. This change occurred on July 25, coinciding with the start of the Bitcoin 2024 conference in Nashville, Tennessee.
The cryptocurrency community on X quickly reacted to the news. Many industry advocates expressed their disappointment. These emojis had been a recognizable part of crypto discussions on the platform for over four years.
Multiple Crypto Emojis Removed, Impact on Market Speculated
The removal was not limited to Bitcoin. Emojis for other cryptocurrencies, such as Cronos (CRO) and BNB, were also deleted. These emojis had been introduced in 2020.
Observers speculated about the potential impact on Bitcoin’s price. Some believed the removal of the Bitcoin emoji could affect market sentiment. However, X has not provided a clear reason for the removal.
Bitcoin Emoji Removal During Bitcoin 2024 Conference
Jack Dorsey, X co-founder, introduced the Bitcoin emoji in February 2020. At that time, Bitcoin was trading around $10,000. The emoji quickly became a popular symbol in the crypto community.
The timing of the removal during the Bitcoin 2024 conference added to the confusion. The conference features prominent speakers, including Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump. Trump, who has positioned himself as a pro-crypto candidate, is scheduled to speak at the conference on July 27.
MAGA Emoji Added and Removed on X, Community Puzzled
Before removing cryptocurrency emojis, X added an emoji for the Trump-themed memecoin, MAGA (TRUMP), on July 18. The MAGA emoji featured Trump with his fist raised in the air. X introduced this emoji after Trump survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania in mid-July. Following this incident, Elon Musk endorsed Trump as a presidential candidate.
However, X also removed the MAGA emoji, which further added to the mystery. Consequently, the community now wonders about the rationale behind these changes.
