YEREVAN (CoinChapter.com) — Santa Monica, California, has set up a Bitcoin Office to educate the public and explore economic opportunities. On July 11, the Santa Monica City Council voted unanimously to create the new office, which also aims to strengthen the city’s role in the Bitcoin industry. The office appeared on the city’s website on August 8. Additionally, it works closely with the Proof of Workforce Foundation, a nonprofit focused on Bitcoin education for workers, unions, and pension funds.
New Office Partners to Educate and Empower Community
The Santa Monica BTC Office prioritizes education. To support this goal, its official website provides resources to help residents understand Bitcoin and its associated risks. Additionally, the office seeks to identify partnerships within the BTC industry to bolster Santa Monica’s economic recovery and generate new jobs.
The office’s website features a disclaimer highlighting the risks of cryptocurrency investment, underlining its educational focus.
The Proof of Workforce Foundation, which was founded by Santa Monica firefighter and former union president Dominick Bei in 2023, plays a key role in this initiative. Moreover, the foundation, with its 501(c)(4) nonprofit status, focuses on helping workers and unions explore how Bitcoin can benefit them. The foundation does not charge the city for its coordination efforts, staying true to its mission of community support.
Santa Monica Reschedules Bitcoin Fest as Peer-to-Pier Event
Santa Monica is gearing up for a Bitcoin-themed event, the BTC Peer to Pier Festival, set for October 18. This event is likely connected to the previously planned Pacific Bitcoin Festival, which was initially sponsored by Swan Bitcoin. However, on August 5, Swan Bitcoin announced it would cancel the larger festival due to staff reductions. Consequently, a smaller event will occur on October 17, followed by Santa Monica’s festival the next day.
The Bitcoin Peer to Pier Festival is part of the city’s broader effort to engage with the Bitcoin community and promote the new BTC Office.
